Bible Bags

Awhile ago I made a Biblebag for Sneezy.  She has been using it for months now, so please excuse any ripples ect, that have occurred because of usage.  I had intended to make a bag for each of the kids, however, other things caught my attention, and well....it didn't happen....till now.

Here's Sneezy's Biblebag.  It's made of purple&black velvety material (re-purposed from an old skirt, and top of mine), and I used plastic file-folders between the outer layers and the lining to stiffen the sides so that it would stand upright, which has worked great!  I did not use a pattern, just made it to the dimensions that I wanted to fit her items.

I monogrammed her real name on the flower, but I've blurred it out for my blog :-)  And I added a small pocket on both sides of the bag to hold pens ect...

It's big enough to fit everything she needs for Church, Sunday School, and Kids4Truth Clubs.

Finally I picked up sewing again on Saturday, a renewed inspiration from reading other blogs.  I found this tutorial for a boys messenger Biblebible bag by sweetfloweret .  I mostly followed her pattern (just changed the dimensions to ensure it fit my sons stuff)  to make Sleepy his own messenger bag.  I used some random scraps fabric for the lining, exterior and fleece, and I cut a strip from an old dress of mine for the strap.  I must say that using fleece as a lining, is brilliant!!!!

Sleepy is very happy with his new Biblebag, and it easily holds all his necessary and accumulated stuff (because 6 year old's accumulate a lot of stuff).

Then yesterday, I grabbed some more scrap fabric, and whipped Bashful up this tote style Biblebag.  Once again no pattern, just designed as I went :-)

I stitched her first initial on one side of the bag, and put a diagonal slot pouch on the other side of the bag to hold her pens and smaller stuff.

When she was a baby we called her snuggle bug so this scrap ladybug material will suit her perfectly.  All the fabric in this project was from scraps of fabric that a friend gave to me.

So now I still have to make Happy her own Biblebag. Hopefully I will get to that today (if time permits).  And I also really need a new Biblebag for myself, so that is also on my list of things to sew.  So my creative juices are working overtime, because I want 5 completely different looking bags :-)

Attic Treasures ~ An Old Picture Frame

I found this in our attic... I’m sure that it was a stunning picture frame in its time.  

But sadly it was neglected in the attic...where it lost many of its details, and became warped from water damage.

None the less there was something about this frame that I liked.

So here’s what I’ve done with it so far:

I just love all the detail work...even though much of it is missing, I still love it :-)

I actually don’t mind it this way...It’s been hanging like this for awhile now, without anything inside of it.  However, I recently received a bedding set from a friend which they are not using anymore, and I’m thinking I’m going to put some of that fabric inside of it???  When I do I’ll post a picture for you.

Attic Treasures

When we first purchased our home 4 years ago, we were amazed at some of the antique treasures we discovered in the attic...some were too destroyed due to a leaking roof or rodent consumption to even keep.... but those that were salvageable I excitedly collected, for future use.  

Here is the first item I repurposed... I decided that I would start with something simple J

It’s a solid iron grate... originally used for ~ well frankly I have no idea J

But none the less the shape and size attracted me. 

There is two cracks on the top of the iron, but because it’s iron, they do not separate even with force...so I decided that I wouldn't bother repairing them, if anything they would leave character J

The first thing I needed to do was remove all the rust, and built up stuff off of the front and sides of the grate (the back I just removed the rust, I wasn't as concerned about the roughness)  I did this by vigorous hand sanding, and washing.

Once I got it smoother, I spray painted it with left over spray paint from a previous project.  It only took 2 coats (front and back)

Till this point I still wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do with the final product, and after it all dried, I looked at it and thought “Wow that would look grate (hehe get the pun) on my bedroom wall.”  So I turned it over and glued some strips of foam to back of it, because I didn’t want it to scratch up my freshly painted walls.

 And then I hung it from 2 nails.  And here it hangs, as a cheery piece on my wall!
